Position: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC


Department: PLANT OPERATIONS


JOB SUMMARY

Performs general maintenance of hospital and grounds.

Maintains heat, power and other services in quantities sufficient to meet needs.

Ensures mechanical efficiency of plant and auxiliary equipment.

Provides the security function as directed.


JOB RELATIONSHIPS

Responsible to:
Plant Operations Supervisor

Employees Supervised:
None

Interrelationships:
Nursing Services, all hospital departments, Biomedical Technicians and outside service companies


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ensures the general maintenance of all hospital equipment, facilities and grounds.

Works with boilers, steam generators, water heaters and other mechanical room equipment.

Assists in all types of installations and maintenance work.

Monitors equipment in boiler room per policy.

Performs routine preventive maintenance activities per policy and schedule.

Ensures the hospital's equipment and grounds are maintained in a safe and usable state.

Provides the security function as directed.

Removes snow and ice from sidewalks and spreads chemicals to prevent freezing and slipping.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with movement of equipment and other heavy items.

Performs basic carpentry tasks.

Performs other related duties as assigned by Director of Plant Operations and Plant Operations Supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with maintenance techniques, air conditioning, plumbing, heating and fire and safety regulations required. One year experience in building maintenance required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of electricity, heating, plumbing, and air conditioning. Use of standard tools of trade.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing or walking 90% of shift. Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, push and pull.

Ability to work in temperatures ranging from 0 110 degrees. Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds.

Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Good audible ability. Mobility to access all areas of the hospital.

Full Time
Sun, Mon, Tues 7:00pm-7:00am
Wed 7:00pm-1:00am
