Position: RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST - ARRT I
Department: RADIOLOGY
JOB SUMMARY
Provides continuous coverage for radiology procedures ordered by the Medical Staff for all designated patients. Performs Radiologic procedures on a regular basis as specifically directed by the Director of Radiology.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs patient workload as assigned (following department policies and procedures).
Provides staffing requirements as indicated with department activity (available for day/evening/weekend and call in coverage for department needs).
Ensures patient rights, care quality, procedure performance and confidentiality are provided according to adopted standards.
Maintains patient records by hospital/department policy and procedures.
Coordinates and instructs nursing personnel, physicians and patients in examination performance/preparation and ensures correct sequencing/ preparations for completion of all requested procedures in a timely fashion.
Ensures personnel qualification and available support equipment meet patients' needs.
Performs "on call" requirements for department function as scheduled/ requested.
Informs the Director of Radiology of any ethical issue concerning patient care based on own cultural values or religious beliefs.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in patient transport.
Assists in maintaining department supplies (functions other than through room assignment to ensure department continuity).
Performs room/equipment cleaning and housekeeping in the department and documents as required by policy.
Performs any filing, scanning or other document processing within the department.
Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Radiology.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of a two year radiologic technology training program at an American Medical Association (AMA) approved school, ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and accreditation in Medical Radiation Technology from the State of Illinois IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Three month introductory period with on the job training.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Maintains and stays current on all new techniques pertaining to the safe practice of radiologic technology. When possible, attends meetings of the various radiologic societies and reads current literature pertaining to radiologic technology.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Above average physical demands including patient movement and mobile equipment management. Good verbal skills and tact to deal with patients and other personnel.
COMPETENCY
Radiology staff maintain their competence through ongoing age-specific assessment and equipment competency that is specific to neonatal, age birth to one year; pediatric, age 1 to 8 years; pre-adolescent, age 8 to 12 years; adolescent, age 12 to 18 years; young adult, age 18 to 35 years; adult, age 35 to 55 years; and geriatric patients, age 55 and over. The competency criteria is based on procedures that have been identified as problem prone, high risk, low volume. Life states and interventions include the physical, motor/sensory adaption, cognitive, psychosocial aspects of care. It is the responsibility of the Radiology staff to complete the designated competency.
