Due to the growing popularity, the new year of Salem Township Hospital’s Lunch & Learn presentations started off in a bigger venue—thanks to First Christian Church for generously hosting us in their spacious gym! Attendees gathered for a delicious lunch, coffee, and dessert, provided by STH Nutritional Services, all while listening to a presentation from General Surgeon, Dr. Kevin Claffey.

Dr. Claffey shared his passion for educating the community about the importance of colon cancer screening —his own mother battled colon cancer twice, and Dr. Claffey is diligent about getting screened himself. Did you know colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide—but it’s also one of the most preventable? Early detection saves lives! If you’re 45 or older, it’s time to get screened—just once every 10 years can make a world of difference! Modern colonoscopies are safe, easier to prep for, and can stop cancer before it starts by removing polyps on the spot. No polyps? You’re good for another 10 years. Pending pathology, a recommendation will be made for your next check.

With over 20,000 colonoscopies performed, Dr. Claffey brings unmatched experience and compassion to our community. We’re grateful to have him looking out for our health! Call 618-548-5061 to schedule your colonoscopy – referrals are not required unless your insurance requires them.

Mark your calendars! Our next Lunch & Learn is Thursday, March 12, featuring Caroline Boehne, Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist at Salem Township Hospital. Don’t miss out!
