Preventive Healthcare
Preventive healthcare refers to any medical treatment or test that aims to prevent disease. It includes leading a healthy lifestyle by being physically active, eating healthy foods, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, and avoiding smoking. It also entails following age-recommended guidelines for vaccines, performing recommended screenings for early signs of cancer and bone density, seeing your healthcare provider regularly, and taking medications or supplements to prevent future health issues.
Other forms of preventive healthcare for older adults include at-home and personal measures such as limiting your fall risk at home by removing obstacles and enhancing your social connections by spending time with friends and family, taking on hobbies, and attending community events.
