Qualifications

Specific to Medical Laboratory Technician:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate of a Diploma School Program.
  • Certification/License/Registration by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), AMT, AAB, or equivalent.

Specific for Medical Technologist:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • Certification/License/Registration by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), AAB, AMT, or equivalent.

Overall:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintenance of strict HIPAA Regulations.
  • Have the ability to assess the needs of the customer and effectively meet those needs.
  • Have basic phlebotomy training
  • Maintains the mission and values of Salem Township Hospital
  • Willingness to accept responsibilities as assigned

Responsibilities

Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Lab Technician (MLT) generalist:

  • Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision.
  • Adheres to laboratory policies to maintain quality assurance
  • Follows strict quality control protocols for the accuracy of results
  • Follows laboratory procedures for instrument maintenance and function checks
  • Documents corrective action where needed
  • Utilizes hospital EMR and laboratory information systems for order entry, data entry, results verification, and QC activities
  • Communicates effectively with other hospital departments
  • Able to collect specimens from patients of all ages
